Heading Home! . . . . . . . .

stay home and tip every third person you see~

As you can see below from our car’s navigator (8/25), we’re wrapping up our trip so this will be our last blog!

Heading Home!

Heading Home!

Our trip from Independence, MO (Truman library) to Las Vegas was great. We had great weather and, for the first time ever, drove through Utah. . .what a beautiful state!

In Las Vegas, we saw “Jersey Boys” at the Paris hotel and casino. We felt the musical was much better than the recent movie. In fact, we still can’t get songs like Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry and Workin’ My Way Back to You off our minds!

In closing, it has been a fantastic trip. In our effort to stay at all military installations (except for 3 months in Alexandria), we ended up staying at 20 Air Force, Navy, Army and Coast Guard bases. We were able to visit 7 Civil war sites, 4 Hall of Fames (NBA, NFL, MLB and Rock and Roll),  7 presidential libraries and museums, and countless other historic sites.

We especially loved catching up with various friends and family and reinforcing and/or meeting new friends.

The only major change of plans was cancelling our trip to Canada and returning home a few months early.

As we traveled through 27 states, it was also fun writing our travel blog and we deeply appreciate those of you that somehow stayed with us along the way!!

We will be back in our San Diego home in early September and will re-evaluate the plausibility of a potential trip next year. That trip may include taking overseas Space A flights on military transports!

For our military friends, you can make all reservations on the DOD lodging website. Click this link Coast Guard bases. If you are interested in taking a trip using all base lodging, just contact us offline and we’ll send you more information, but basically, (except for perhaps once or twice), we had all lodging set up 1-2 months in advance.

Road Trip starts 3/15/14
